Springfield Ramblers A (1) v Park United (2)
Doing wonders for the TV ratings, our heroes were lined up for another Monday night football special this week against Park Utd. So despite the hurricane the game went ahead.
Playing against the elements, our Spartans repelled everything they faced with Emmanuel Gattuso Adeosun, Alex Cap’n Kirk, David Silva Julius and Maximus Gladiator Devlin the rocks that many attacks perished on with Ronan Casillas O’Connor in total command of the goal. While rapid fire counter attacks by Eoin Keano Curry, Cian Januzaj Tobin, Fionn The Showman Dolan and Sultan Aguero Adebayo frightened the bejaysus out of the visitors on many occasions.

The second half saw the introduction of Julius Caesar Kroscen and Evan DJ Doody raise the tempo still higher. A freak goal by the visitors would shake many but not these immortals and it wasn’t long before Aguero had us level with a great goal thanks to brilliant work by Daniel Alves Julius and Sean Real Deal Devlin. Aguero worked his magic with a full pike followed by a double twist to earn us a penalty mid-way through the half. Fantasy football Legend he is but his effort was deflected wide off the back bumper of the bus now parked in the visitor’s goal.
After that, try as we might we just couldn’t squeeze the ball passed that bus for the winner. Unfortunately in the final minutes we went down to a killer goal. But the heroics of these men will go down through time when children are told tales of courage in the face of incredible adversity at bedtime.
The Auntie Nellies sponsored Man of the Match was Sean Real Deal Devlin and he received his everlasting gob stopper from captain Fantastic Cian Januzaj Tobin.
On the Rams…..

Carrigaline United A (0) v Cobh Ramblers (1)
The lads clinched the league today after a tough and scrappy encounter with Carrigaline. On a terrible morning weather wise for football it was more about getting the result than playing good football. In the end a Darren McKevitt strike in the second half was the difference between the teams. A huge congratulations to the team on a brilliant season. This bunch of lads are a privilege to work with and each and every one of them can be proud of themselves with the effort and dedication they put in this season. Brilliant lads. Well done.

Umbro 11 Division 3
Park United (7) v Springfield Ramblers A (2)
With passports in hand, our band of merry men needed planes, trains and automobiles to get to Mitchelstown to take on Park Utd in the return leg of their recent clash, dubbed the “Battle by the Bay” for what promised to be another thriller. The use of coach Vinny ‘Special One’ Kirk as an illegal player was narrowly avoided as a few players arrived just before kick-off and we wish him a speedy recovery following the surgical removal of the shorts after the game.

Playing into the hill and wind we took the game to Park but our all-out attacking instincts left us open at the back and we went 1 down despite the best efforts of Alex ‘Capn’ Kirk who made two point blank saves. Hot shot Sultan ‘Aguero’ Adebayo hit the post before two more quick breaks by the hosts left us 3 down at the break.

On the resumption a well worked short corner by Darragh ‘Ozil’ Regan and Daniel ‘Alves’ Julius resulted in a goal for Aguero but the back door just wouldn’t close and we conceded a few more. But true to form, our Goliaths fought to the final whistle and got their reward when a great through ball by Cian ‘Januzaj’ Tobin found Aguero who doubled our tally on full time.

Afterwards, a sugar fuelled rush from everlasting gob stoppers led to a mutinous dressing room standoff. So the now “Sorrento’s” sponsored man of the match was Sultan ‘Aguero’ and he received his Doner Kebab from Captain Marvel Eoin ‘Keano’ Curry.

Umbro 13 Division 5
Springfield Ramblers B (6) v Avondale United A (2)
Goal Scorers, Evan O’Leary (2), Brad Stapleton(2), Ger Devlin(2).
A full squad of players turned up for the game against near rivals Avondale. Springfield started well and playing with a strong wind dominated the early exchanges. But as with so many times this season a quick break by Avondale produced the first goal after 10mins. Springfield continued to dominate and soon equalised through a strike from Evan O’Leary and another fine finish from Ger Devlin gave Springfield a deserved lead. As Springfield continued to create chances a goal each from Ger Devlin and Evan O’Leary made it 4-1 before half time. Playing against the strong wind in the second half Springfield defended a bit deeper and used the counter attack to good effect. Two Brad Stapleton goals early in the half settled the team and although the reminder of the game Avondale pressurised more it was only with the last kick of the game that they managed to score their second. Another good performance by the entire team, Marc Jones and Rowland Nsubuga were excellent in defence and Man of the Match to Ger Devlin with tireless display in midfield and two well taken goals. Thanks to all family and friends for the great support.

Springfield Ramblers (2) v Leeds (1)
Goals Tom Ring, Tom Noonan.
Springfield climbed off the bottom of the table with a hard fought win at home to Leeds, man of the match Joshua Crone.

Umbro 16 Premier
Corinthian Boys (2) v Springfield Ramblers (1)
After the impressive cup win on Thursday v Carrigaline the lads faced a strong Corinthian side who were also in contention for the league title today. Springfield were the weaker side for much of the first half, making silly mistakes that eventually lead to a Corinthian goal. The home side didnt create much and only had chances off the back of our mistakes. The second half was stronger with the introduction of Calvin Murphy who brought energy to a somewhat tired team following Thursday night. The lads pushed forward and began making chances with Darren Murphy and Adam Horgan making runs on the wings. The teams work paid off after a great Garan Manley free kick was met by Adam O Sullivan who put into the back of the net to level the game. The lads continued to create chances and looked the most likely to score. Adam O Sullivan and Alex O’ Driscoll kept things tight at the back to stop any Corinthian runs. Unfortunately due to no fault of the players a penalty was awarded and Corinthians went 2-1 to win the game. A combination of tiredness and bad luck lost the game for lads. Best on the day, Garan Manley, Alex O Driscoll and Calvin Murphy.
