Route Around Cork Harbour

Spectacular waterfront scenery is one of the great attractions of Ireland. The success of the Great Atlantic way arises from the extensive access there is to our coastline along public roads. South Africa has the Garden Route and California the Big Sur. Neither compare to the beauty and extent of the Atlantic Way.

This applies too to Cork Harbour. It may only be the second biggest harbour in the world but it more than likely has the greatest waterfront access. Certainly there is no city hall to compare to Cork City Hall for access to its harbour waterfront. Leaving Cork City Hall you can cycle 40Km around the harbour mainly on waterfront with spectacular views across the wide expanse of its loughs. Better still, cycle paths have been developed along much of it from Blackrock Castle to Passage West. The excellent non-stop ferry service completes the circuit to Cobh and all then cross Great Island, Fota Island and return to the City Hall.

The 13thannual Cork Harbour Cycle will follow the waterfront route around the harbour. It will take place on Sunday the 8th March. It is a leisure cycle for all to enjoy with plenty of signposting and stewards to see you safely around plus many treats including a free ferry crossing compliments of Cork River Ferries. It is a fundraising cycle for Africa Direct a Cork based all-voluntary charity helping destitute slum dwellers in Kenya.
