Since the rejuvenation of Ballymore Cobh AC 12 months ago, never has such a large army wore the black and amber into an athletic battle!

Over forty of our juvenile athletes laced up their running shoes, for what was sure to be a fantastic sporting debut for our young Ballymore AC squad!

The blustery cold conditions did not dampen the spirits of our young athletes as they made their presence known at Day 1 of the East Cork Championship at CIT, Bishopstown on Sunday March 29th

Without fail, every athlete that participated on the day gave 100% effort, with fantastic performances all round.

Too many names to mention them all, but a few highlights of the day were Marc Jones’s demolition of his 100m sprint final, Thomas Krawcyzk, Paidi Kearney, Karl Doyle and Gustav Tuszynski, all superb in their U17-U19 800m. Adam Hastings who had a massive finish in his 600m race and Lucy Stoat who gave a magnificent performance in her 800m.

Off the track, in the field events the medals kept coming. All our athletes had the chance to participate in Long Jump, High Jump and Javelin.

Matthew Pender’s superb javelin debut earned him a silver medal on the day. Aine Sheridan took home the silver medal following her fantastic first appearance in the long jump.

The final events of the day didn’t fail to disappoint when our athletes took to the track one last time for the relays.

The U11 boys consisting of Aaron Murphy, Odhran Burke, Matthew Perryman and Rúaidhrí Hales all put a gallant effort into their race.

Following the boys were the U13 girls, Maggie Sillett, Emily Sheridan, Mia O’Shea and Roise Devery – what a run these four girls had!

Next up, the U13 boys, with Conor Kidney, Charlie O’Regan, Mark O’Rourke and Danny each giving it their all in this event.

Last but by no means least were the U15 girls, Lucy Stoat, Amy Forrest, Niamh O’Shea and Síofra Bonne who all powered through their relay leg to the echoes of the Ballymore crowd!

The stand out performance of the day by far was the Boys U9’s relay team, Ryan McCormick, Darragh Boyd , Sam Dorgan and Thomas Devery, the excitement during this race was electric!

All of the clubs youngsters fought past the cold, wind and tiredness by taking their places at the starting line and gave their all. As a club it was a very proud day, we could ask no more of our young athletes who wore the colours with pride.

So what is next for our young stars? They will do it all again on Day 2 of the East Cork Track & Field Championships on Sunday April 12th in Youghal.
