Invitation to local townspeople to a dinner for families of passengers on the final crossing of the Lusitania

My name is Jon Kiger and my great grandfather survived the final crossing of the Lusitania. He was brought ashore in Cobh. I am part of a group of family members of passengers on that fateful voyage and we are returning to the area as part of the 100th commemoration ceremonies. We are hosting a reception/dinner on 6th May in the Commodore Hotel. We have a limited number of spaces for locals from Cobh to attend. We are particularly interested in meeting residents of Cobh who may have heard stories from the day from their relatives.

Cost is €30 (payable in advance at the Commodore Hotel) and the schedule is as follows:

4:00 – Tea/coffee – Commodore Hotel Rooftop garden
4:30 – 5:30 Families tour Lusitania exhibit at Cobh Museum
5:30 – 6:30: Reception in O’Shea’s Bar with Ben Hurley
6:30 – 8:30: Dinner (three courses; choice of beef, salmon, vegetarian entree) including coffee/tea
8:30 – on: Return to O’Shea’s Bar

During the dinner there will be presentations from the families regarding their relatives’ experiences during the final crossing of the Lusitania. We are looking forward to being in Cobh (many for the first time), meeting the people of the town, and learning more about the events on the day. We will also be presenting a plaque to the people of Cobh in appreciation for their assistance on the days surrounding that fateful day in 1915.

For more information email: jonkiger@mac.com or call in to the Commodore Hotel. Ask for Eoin McCarthy or Mary O’Mahony.
