Cork East Fine Gael TD David Stanton has congratulated East Cork sports clubs and organisations on receiving €484,000 funding under the Sports Capital Programme 2015.
“I am delighted that 14 clubs and sports facilities in East Cork have done so well in this year’s Sports Capital Programme. The total award for the East Cork area was €484,000, which is a substantial increase on the €328,600 allocated to the area in July last year. This funding is great news for local clubs and the communities in which they are based as it should allow clubs to improve services and facilities for their current and future members”, said Deputy Stanton.
The local clubs and groups with successful applications this year are:
Midleton Rugby Club €95,000
FON Ballymacoda Ltd €95,000
Cobh Pirates RFC €80,000
Aghada GAA €78,000
Bride Rovers €34,000
Youghal United AFC €31,000
Killeagh GAA €14,000
Cork Acro Gymastics €14,000
Claycastle Pitch & Putt €12,000
Cove Sailing Club €10,000
Whitegate Rowing Club €7,000
Rushbrooke Rowing Club €7,000
Aghada Community Council €6,000
Cobh Community Centre €1,000
“A total of €41 million is being made available by Minister Ring this year under the Sports Capital Programme 2015. This is a slight increase on last year’s allocation of €40.5 million, and brings to a total of €126 million awarded by the Government since it reinstated the programme which was closed by the previous government during the recession.
“Fine Gael is keenly aware of the impact the economic downturn has had on communities throughout Ireland. The Sports Capital Programme is one of the ways we are trying to ensure that the economic recovery spreads to all parts of Ireland.
