Pirates had a late score to beat Presentation in the Munster Junior Clubs challenge shield, a last minute try from Alan Langford converted by Ian Jones earned Pirates a narrow 25-20 victory in Rathuard. Jack Hickey and Dave McAuliffe were the Pirates’ other try scorers and Jones added another conversion and two penalties.
In the morning fixture an under strength Junior 2 side went down to Shandon 26-8 in the league.
Munster Under 18 League Conference 6 Dungarvan 29-19 Cobh Pirates
Munster Under 16 League Conference 4 Pirates 30 – 14 Highfield.
Pirates ran out convincing winners, displaying a brand of running rugby traditional to the Paddock. Evident throughout the display was a show of direct running, with support play and accurate passing, under the watchful eye of Bernard Kiely and James Murphy.
The forwards and backs combined well throughout the game, attacking the line at every opportunity.
South Under 14 League Conference 3 Cobh Pirates 25-5 Fermoy
U14s keep up the good work to keep a 100% record in u14 league
Captained by PJ Cronin they put in a great team performance once again. Every player made a great contribution to what was a very enjoyable game of running rugby where they scored some excellent try’s.
Next Saturday they travel to Carrigaline for their next challenge in the league.
Ongoing for the next number of weeks Pirates will be accepting old clothes, linen and curtain in the cash for clothes fundraising initiative. Items will be accepted every Saturday morning, so a great change to empty the wardrobe of old clothes for Christmas.
The South Cork U15 Girls recorded their first ever win on Saturday . The team featuring seven Cobh Pirates, six Old Christians and three Highfield girls, played Youghal in a very fast and high scoring match. The final score was Youghal 41 South Cork 51.
A hat trick from winger Sarah Dennehy (Old Christians), two tries each for full back Emma Worrell (Pirates) and winger Sarah O’Callaghan (Old Chris tians), plus tries from prop Ruby Wilmot (Pirates) and centre Rachel Keating (Pirates). Three conversions by outhalf Emily Piggott (Pirates). The side was captained by Emma Worrell.
The South Cork U15s host Youghal at home next week ( Sat 7th Nov), while the South Cork U18s host Thurles / Cashel. Both matches will be played at Cobh Pirates, with the U15s kicking off at 12.30pm and the U18s at 2.00pm
