After last weeks race cancellation due to the horrendous weather conditions, organisers of the Great Island 10 Road Race confirmed yesterday that the race will now takes place on Monday 2nd May, with all registration and starting times remaining the same.

Late last night, organisers put out the following statement on the race Facebook page:

‘NEW DATE CONFIRMED:

Just got confirmation of the date – May 2nd, Bank Holiday Monday. For those that have entered already hold onto your numbers. For those that entered and didn’t receive their race packs you can collect them on the morning of the run.

If anyone is looking for a refund please contact me on 087 1327557. Race times will stay the same. Online registration will be open tomorrow.’

Now in it’s seventh year, the race which has been votes Munster’s Top Ten Road Race’ in 2011, 2012 and 2013 has already raised €153,000 plus costs which is a fantastic achievement. 100% of all proceeds from the race go directly to the Irish Cancer Society. with special emphasis on Palliative Care.

Palliative care offers cancer sufferers the opportunity to spend their remaining time in the relative comfort of their own homes surrounded by those they love while ensuring them the dignity and privacy that only a home can offer. It is impossible to put a price on such a service – and it’s free.

After last weeks cancellation, organisers were very downbeat but that all changed when their Facebook page was indundated with messages of support, coupled with the hundreds received via the Facebook private messaging system.

All’s well that ends well I guess
