Minister Sean Sherlock has confirmed that works have been approved for Cobh National School under the €30 million investment for over 197 schools under the multi-annual Summer Works Scheme (2016-2017)

“Funding of €30 million will see major improvements in primary and post primary schools around the country,” said Minister Sherlock.

“I’m delighted that Cobh National has been approved for the works that will further assist with capital investment project in the school campus. Projects were given priority under electrical and gas works, which the school applied for. I look forward to seeing the works take place over the summer months, which will offer minimal disruption to staff and students.”

“My colleague, the Minister for Education and skills, Jan O’Sullivan, has allocated funding around the country today. This investment will not only benefit the school community but also create jobs in the local construction sector. I have ensured that capital investment in schools in Cobh and East Cork has been a priority of this Government.”

Local councillor Cathal Rasmussen also welcomed the confirmation of school funding for the community.

“It is important that we continue to invest in our schools here in Cobh,” said Cllr Rasmussen.

“I’m glad to see Cobh approved under Priority One. I look forward to the works being completed locally and having a knock-on effect in the local economy. We have an exciting period of school building starting in Cobh, and I look forward to the impact that will have on the economy.”

197 primary and post primary schools will be included in the first round of successful applicants who have been approved funding under the multi-annual Summer Works Scheme for 2016 and 2017 to improve and upgrade existing school buildings.

Schools approved for grant aid under this year’s Summer Works Scheme can access further details and instructions on how to proceed on-line using the Department’s Esinet Portal.
