The Hillfest 5k Road Race in association with Watergrasshill A.C. was held on Sunday 29th of May.

Under blue skies and temperatures well into the 20s, the female field of this mid-afternoon race was led home by none other than Ballymore Cobh’s Jennifer Goggin Walsh.
A great win for Jennifer in her adopted hometown.
Superb running, Jennifer.

At the Cork BHAA John Buckley Sports 5k held at the Marina in Cork city, Ballymore Cobh A.C. sisters Orla O’Rourke and Una French made it a 1-2 as the pair of them powered home to first and second category places.
Va-va-vooom!

Among the whopping 28 club members who participated in the Cork City relay, half marathon and full marathon races in humid and trying conditions on Bank Holiday Monday 6th of June, it was that girl Orla O’Rourke who hit the headlines again.

A stunning 5th place finish out of a female Half Marathon field of 940 athletes was just reward for Orla’s excellent finish time of 1:35:03.

Yvonne Davidson put in a great shift also to complete her first Half Marathon. Atta girl, Yvonne.

Fergal Quinlan, a marathon veteran at this stage, needed to dig deep to sustain the pace in what was marathon number 18 for him.
And dig deep he did, the tremendous effort expended proving worthwhile as he lifted his daughter over the barriers on St. Patrick’s Street running hand in hand with her over the line.
You couldn’t put a price on that feeling!
Lovely hurling, Fergal.

Thursday evening the 9th of June saw Trevor Cummins run a very impressive time of 2:19.71 and register 2nd place in the 3rd and final 800m heat at the John Buckley Sports Graded League at the C.I.T track.

Of the same evening out Macroom way, Shane Meyler togged out in the black and yellow at the Cloughduv Hurling Club 5k and ran hard from the off, ending up just outside the podium positions, to earn himself a very creditable 5th place finish.

The Cork Business House Athletic Association Merck 6k was held on Thursday 9th of June close to Carrigtwohill.

Amongst the prize winners on the night were Ballymore Cobh members Orla O’Rourke (Keen On Sport) in a fantastic 1st place with Jennifer Goggin (Novartis) running brilliantly also to take 3rd place.

Una French (Keen On Sport), is a name we’re getting used to seeing amongst the prize-winners lately, and she didn’t disappoint us as she stormed home into a 1st place category finish. Outstanding!

Since our rebirth just over 2 years ago our adult and junvenile sections are flourishing, with Ballymore Cobh A.C. having the largest adult membership of all athletic clubs throughout Cork – no small feat.

New members, of all abilities, are always very welcome to join.
