Christian Aid Titanic Cycle Challenge

Christian Aid Ireland has organised a major fund raising, profile building event, Christian Aid Titanic Cycle Challenge 212 which is aimed to tie in with the Titanic centenary celebrations planned in Ireland for 2012. The key element of this marathon cycle event is to celebrate the Irish roots of this great ship in its centenary year.  Starting at Belfast’s Harland and Wolff shipyard, on Wednesday morning 16th May, where the Titanic was built, this 280 mile cycle will take cyclists through some of Ireland’s most beautiful countryside, finishing at Cobh, on Saturday 19th May, the Titanic’s last port of call.” It would be hoped that the end point and the reception for the cyclists will be at the Titanic Experience Centre in Cobh on the evening of the 19th. It is hoped and envisaged that 40 cyclists from all parts of Ireland will participate in the cycle and that a number will come from the Cork area.

The Christian Aid Titanic Cycle Challenge is operated by Extreme Ireland (an experienced events company), on behalf of Christian Aid, have insurance cover for public liability and professional indemnity for the Christian Aid Titanic Cycle Challenge event. Extreme Ireland will be providing full safety, technical and logistical cover for the duration of the challenge. The logistical support during the challenge will include all meals, snacks and accommodation for all the cyclists. Transport will available from Cork to Belfast via Dublin on the 15th May and 20th May, with optional accommodation pre- and post-challenge on the 15th and 19th. There will also be a comprehensive kit list to ensure that all cyclists well equipped for the cycle route. The route of  280 miles take cyclists  from Belfast to Dundalk, Tullamore, Partickwell (Co.Limerick) and finishing in Cobh on Saturday 19th May. It is hoped that all the cyclists will receive a warm welcome when they arrive at the Titanic Experience Centre in Cobh, enjoy a well deserved evening meal to celebrate the end of our Titanic Cycle Challenge and will also have an opportunity to walk Cobh Titanic Trail in the evening.
