Cobh-based TV Production start-up, Great Island Productions, has launched a crowdfunding campaign through the UK-based platform, Crowdcube

Great Island are developing long-form TV drama as well as a number of animation series, documentary and unscripted formats. Founded by Mark Kenny and Jim Robinson in 2020, with serial entrepreneur Shemas Eivers appointed as Chairman of the Board, the company currently has 12 projects on their development slate, four of which are market-ready to pitch for production funding. They will produce these TV series in Cork and the greater Munster region.
Mark Kenny, CEO, who produced and created a number of popular TV shows in the Caribbean, said there is huge potential in Cork. “Cork is an untapped market full of talented writers, actors and creatives and we really want to bring that to not only an Irish audience but a global market. The locations in Cork are ideal for TV production and in the main have previously been unexploited. There is such a varied landscape with a vibrant cosmopolitan city location as well as rural, coastal and mountainous regions. It really has it all. The value of an individual project could be over €1 million per episode and it is our intention to maximise this spend in the Cork region.”

Jim Robinson PhD, COO/CFO said: “To date, we have attracted significant investment from both private investors here in Cork and Enterprise Ireland (who are the largest seed capital investors in Europe). We have had great traction with the projects we are developing being backed by both Screen Ireland and two major international distributors. Now we have decided to add a round of crowdfunding to our Angel and institutional shareholder group. Starting this week we have a live crowdfunding campaign with the number one platform Crowdcube to raise additional money to market our shows and speed up the growth of our business.” He added “Now we need the Cobh and Cork community to rally behind us and invest via the platform. Even small would really help and help us gather momentum. Our objective is to establish a TV production industry here in Cork and this stage is key to achieving that goal. “
