Cobh man Andrew O’Shea retires after over four decades of service with Aramark Ireland

After an incredible 46 years of service, Andrew O’Shea has officially retired from Aramark Ireland. A proud Cobh native and one of ten siblings, six sisters and three brothers, Andrew began his journey with Aramark in April 1979 as a catering assistant. Little did he know he was beginning a journey that would span nearly five decades as a beloved and respected member of the Aramark family.
From his very first day, Andrew brought dedication, humility, and a strong work ethic to his role. His responsibilities included assisting chefs in the kitchen, preparing breakfasts and lunches, making sandwiches, and keeping the kitchen spotless. He took great pride in his work, always showing up with a positive attitude and a commitment to doing his best every single day.
One of the biggest changes Andrew witnessed over the years was the rise of technology in the workplace. While adapting wasn’t always easy, he credits his colleagues and managers for their patience and support, never pushing him beyond his comfort zone. “They were always so kind and understanding,” he shared. “I never felt left behind.”
Andrew was known for his quiet dedication and no-nonsense approach to work. He always gave his full attention to the task at hand, earning the respect of colleagues and clients alike for his reliability, focus, and commitment to doing the job well.
As his retirement approached, Andrew was deeply moved by the outpouring of kind words and well wishes from across the business. “The response was phenomenal,” he said. “I was so humbled by it all. Aramark has been like a second family to me.”
Now, Andrew is looking forward to a well-earned retirement and spending more time with his wife Mary Rose, enjoying a quieter pace of life, and taking a few small holidays together. While he’ll miss his time at Aramark, he leaves with nothing but fond memories and a legacy of loyalty, kindness, and hard work.
Joanne Doyle, HR & DE&I Director at Aramark Ireland, shared her appreciation:
“Andrew’s dedication over the past 46 years is nothing short of extraordinary. He exemplifies the values we hold at Aramark, commitment, humility, and passion. His presence will be missed, but his impact will be felt for years to come. We wish him every happiness in this next chapter.”
The staff at Aramark Ireland would like to thank Andrew for his remarkable contribution, and they wish him well for the future.
