Cobh Wanderers 2 – 2 Cobh Ramblers

Published

on

Cobh Wanderers Seniors played a friendly against Cobh Ramblers Under 19s at Old Church Park on Saturday 17th December. This was the 2nd match between the sides this season – the 1st encounter was won by the Wanderers in the match played in the Ramblers last August.

The first half was an up & down affair for both teams with each side enjoying periods of dominance but unable to get the important 1st goal.

Ten minutes into the 2nd half & the scores still at 0-0 Wanderers took the lead. A back pass by the Ramblers right full, the keeper had the situation under control until the ball went under his foot & standing in the 6 yard box he didn’t have time to recover. A fortuitous score for the Senior team that was cruel on the unlucky keeper.

This spurred the Ramblers on & it wasn’t long before they were level. On a roll as the last 15 minutes approached the Ramblers made their superiority pay & took the lead from an uncleared corner.

It now fell on the Wanderers to summon themselves for the final push to level the scores. The score finally came with 3 minutes remaining. Jimmy Griffin attacked down the right wing & flighted a perfect ball to the far post where Ooch Kinsella produced a perfect volley to score.

The match ended all square & both teams were satisfied with the result.

The “Cobh Edition” Man of the Match was presented to Ooch Kinsella in Jack Doyles after the game for his impressive display throughout the match & his great finish to level the game at 2-2.

St. Stephen’s Day at Old Church Park

The annual St. Stephen’s Day match between an ex-players/ old timers selection organised by club Chariman Joe Stack & a present players selection organised by Senior team manager Dave Ryan will kick off this year at 11.30AM at Old Church Park. This is a chance to get out of the house & see all your favourite players from yesteryear.

All proceeds will go towards the Casey Byrne-Rowe Benefit fund.

Casey Byrne-Rowe Benefit Match

On Friday 30th December a benefit game will be held between Cobh Wanderers Juniors & Springfield second team as a benefit for 17 month old Casey Byrne-Rowe.

Casey has been diagnosed with cancer & as her father, Trevor, has played for both the Wanderers & Springers Kieran Brady of Wanderers & Brian Leahy of Springfield are bringing their teams to Old Church Park with kickoff at 2.00PM.

We hope that the people of Cobh, whether soccer supporters or not, will turn out to support this cause as all proceeds from the gate will go to the Casey Byrne Benefit fund. Also for the game we will be selling Golden Goal tickets – tickets are available from Kieran Brady & Brian Leahy.

At Cobh Wanderers & Springfield we would like to wish Trevor, Caroline & Casey all the best & all our thoughts are with them.
