Pirates secure injury time draw
Munster Junior League – St. Mary’s 16 Cobh Pirates 16
Pirates secured a draw in injury time to take two valuable points from this match. Mary’s went ahead on 20 minutes with a penalty. Greg Higgins equalised for Pirates within 5 minutes but conceded two more penalties to end the first half 9-6 down.
In the second half, in spite of good play and running from Pirates, they let Mary’s in for a try to trail 16-9. Good mauling by Pirates and strong running breaks, especially by Greg Higgins, gave them territory but they failed time after time in the final yards. However, with time running out a great move downthe right wing let Tom Rice free. He chipped a defender, secured the ball on the bounce and galloped in for a try which was converted by Higgins.
Pirates meet Tralee next Sunday, 18th, at The Paddocks at 2.30 in the next round of the League.
