Cobh & Harbour Chamber Highlights Strategic Investment Needs at Business Lunch Event

Cobh & Harbour Chamber hosted its first business event of 2026, in association with the Port of Cork, on Thursday, 29th January at the historic Fota House, Arboretum and Gardens. The event brought together over 80 business, civic, and community leaders to discuss key priorities for economic growth across the harbour region.

The event was attended by Minister for Enterprise, Tourism and Employment, Peter Burke TD, alongside elected representatives, senior local authority officials, international dignitaries, and members of the Chamber’s business community. The Port of Cork sponsored the event, with Tim Murphy, Head of Port Engineering, introducing the Minister as guest of honour.

Minister Burke’s address was warmly received, with attendees noting his clear understanding of the challenges facing SMEs, tourism operators, and regional enterprise. The Minister engaged directly with business leaders, highlighting the need for strategic investment to unlock the economic potential of towns like Cobh.

In his opening remarks, Chamber President Colin Morehead outlined the Chamber’s priorities for 2026, focusing on three areas: delivery of the Cobh Public Realm Enhancement Plan, activation of the Cork Harbour Tourism Strategy, and development of public water access and a future marina for the town.

Attendees were encouraged by the Minister’s insight into how government policy can support local enterprise and tourism, particularly in enhancing infrastructure, growing visitor numbers, and improving public access to the harbour.

The event also featured the Chamber’s Member Spotlight, with Alan O’Callaghan, General Manager of Spike Island, showcasing the success of the award-winning visitor attraction and its role in raising Cobh’s profile as a tourism destination.

Cobh & Harbour Chamber reaffirmed its commitment to working in partnership with government, the Port of Cork, Cork County Council, and national agencies to progress these priorities in 2026.
