Mon. 21st – Sun. 27th March 2016
A very slow week on the race calendar for us, whilst it was a busy one on the training runs front.
Monday evening saw our weekly tempo run session departing from the Heritage Centre.
Whilst on Tuesday evening we conducted a brand new weekly session for our novice athletes. The session was open to all members, but primarily focusing on the joys of “easy running”, especially so for our newest members who had successfully completed our recent Fit4Life programme.
An introduction to different types of training runs, incorporating hills, speedwork, etc. will be given to these athletes over the coming weeks.
With stopwatch and coach’s whistle to hand, Stephen Pender put our Wednesday evening martyrs through their paces at the track, doing a passable impression of rap artist Flo Rida’s “Blow Your Whistle Baby”.
A cold, wet and windy Saturday morning didn’t deter Kevin Jones and a sizeable posse of disciples covering the challenging course of the Great Island 10 mile route.
Their tracks were then covered by Katherine Farrell and her gang of charlatans and chancers later on that afternoon.
Easter Sunday morning had dozens of club runners out and about the Great Island.
Rob Doherty took Deirdre and Shane Meyler out for a trot along the Tay Road, only to be greeted upon their return to Cuskinny by Helen Devery and her accomplices covering 10 miles to town and back, plus Heike Von Heyne and Yvonne Davidson spogging some homemade Easter delights by their vehicles until they too returned from their morning run. They did share their spoils, of course.
Stephen Pender and Orla O’Rourke ran a speedy 13 miles from downtown out to the Pottery Road and back. Spring tides and winter storms notwithstanding, the Pottery Road is always a fine spot to get in some speedwork in what is a quite peaceful and serene setting.
Hold on a minute, we feel a song coming on – Until we meet again, don’t know where, don’t know when, but I know we’ll meet again some suuuunnnnyyy dayyyyyyyyyyy…
