2012 Christmas Message from Breaking The Silence

With the recent announcement of yet another very tough Budget, it is safe to say that most people in Ireland will experience some form of additional stress this time of year. For the majority of people this means keeping the head down and getting through things until hopefully they improve, however, for some people it is not so easy.  Some of us for whatever reason might not have as strong a coping capacity and the extra stress that comes inevitably with this time of year is just enough to bring us to the brink.  We panic, we feel the light is gone and there are no other options available.  This is a very scary place to be in and all of us as a community need to play our part to watch out for such people.  It may be a comment in the supermarket or something said in the pub, a comment on facebook and something so small could easily be an indication that somebody is in trouble.  What do we advise? Never take the risk, never forget to ask that person if they are okay and as one of our trainers says it does become really important to be “nosey” as that could ultimately mean saving somebody’s life. We ask you to please keep this in mind this Christmas.

Thank you for your support throughout 2012 and we look forward to supporting the Community in 2013.

Breaking The Silence is a Cobh based voluntary group that works to help create a Suicide Safer Community by connecting the person at risk of Suicide with life preserving resources. We are an entirely voluntary Community Group and without the support of the Community we could not do the work that we do.  For information on upcoming courses with Breaking The Silence please email training.breakingthesilence@gmail.com and to keep up to date with group activities you can find us on facebook by searching for ‘Breaking The Silence Cobh’.
