IMG_6314Cobh men Micheál O’Driscoll, Bill Kelleher and Tom Moore together with Emmet Fennell from Glanmire take part as the Irish Team in this years Race Across America on 15th June. This is a 3000 mile non-stop race from Oceanside, California to Annapolis Maryland in less than 8 days with the sole intention of raising awareness of Diabetes. Around 190,000 people in Ireland are living with diabetes and medical experts predict that this number will grow to almost 250,000 by 2020. Micheál, Bill, Tom and Emmet are currently fundraising to produce a guide for all those with Diabetes focusing on how best to manage the condition and in particular how to best access insurance products at the best possible rates. Their book, “A Practical Guide to Protecting You and Your Family” will be made available to all those with diabetes free of charge in hard copy or online via Diabetes Ireland website.

Cobh men Micheál, Bill and Tom are by now familiar sights on their bikes in the Cobh and greater Cork area as they near their completion of a 6 month intensive training programme in preparation for what is regarded as one of the most demanding endurance events in the world. As active members of Ballymore Cycling Club they encourage everyone to stay healthy through exercise and thereby greatly reduce the incidence of type 2 diabetes. This Saturday the 1st June they will participate in a cycloton   being hoisted in Cobh’s Coral Gym from 9am to 5PM. They invite everyone to come along and participate in what will be a fun day and access information on diabetes and support their fund raising initiative.

You can follow their progress on corkraam2013.com and Facebook Cork RAAM 2013.
