Chubbs was once again the hero of the piece tonight as he bagged all four goals to put the seniors into the 3rd round of the Keane Cup at the expense of hosts Mayfield United. Dave Stack supplied the cross from the left after three minutes for Chubbs to head home.
On 11 minutes a cheeky back-heel took out two Wanderers players before a Mayfield player curled a great effort to the top corner of the goal to equalize. Mayfield took the lead on 34 minutes when their midfielder ran straight through the middle before picking out a striker who finished low to the corner. Chubbs scored his second with a sublime finish on 41 minutes following a quick breakaway led by Jimmy Griffin who found our striker in acres of space and he flicked the ball to the top corner just out of reach of the keeper. Mayfield re-took the lead on 53 minutes with a simple header from a corner.
Chubbs again forced a leveler on 72 minutes when Cian O’ Connor drove into space down the right before crossing for Chubbs to side-foot home and force extra time. Penalties looked on the cards before Jimmy picked out Chubbs once again with two minutes remaining and he made no mistake with the finish as the light was fading fast! Well done to all the lads on a great effort over the 110 minutes.
Scorer: Ian Stapleton 3, 41, 72 & 108. Mayfield: 11, 34 & 53.
Team: Mark Power, George Keating (Conor Walsh 67), Jordan Tarrant-Lowry, Dave Curran, Anthony Wolfe, Jason Abbott, Jimmy Griffin, Owen Kinsella, Ian Stapleton, Cian O’ Connor, Dave Stack.
