5th Annual Barrack Hill Ball Roll – Monday August 1st

This August Bank Holiday Monday, 4.00pm, Cobh will once again buzz with excitement and spectacle as the 5th Annual Barrack Hill Ball Roll is held in the Cork Harbour town.

The Barrack Hill Ball Roll is a lottery like no other when thousands and thousands of coloured numbered balls cascade and bounce down West View or the “Deck of Cards”- the steepest hill in Cobh and one of the steepest hills in Ireland!  This is a unique event that is unmatched and unparalleled anywhere!
The rippled concrete surface of the hill makes the balls bounce, the insane gradient makes them go faster and faster and hundreds of children intent on kicking the balls even faster still, makes this something that will etch on your mind forever.

This is a charity fundraising event in aid of two charities – Brainwave Ireland and the Head and Neck Oncology unit at the South Infirmary Hospital in Cork.
The first four balls through a pipe at the end of the hill win cash prizes!

This year’s spectacle takes place on Monday August 1st and the afternoon will be packed full of family entertainment. The Army Band of 1 Southern Brigade will perform on the Promenade Bandstand at 2.30 pm, there will be a Crab Fishing competition, a Family Treasure Hunt around the streets of historical and pretty Cobh and the Big Ball uphill challenge. Here teams of three have to roll a big exercise ball UP THE HILL in a relay and the training is in full swing to perfect the changeover!
Don’t miss your opportunity to watch this extraordinary event! Be a part of it by buying balls for just €2 up to 3.30 pm and witness the unprecedented craic and buzz which the Barrack Hill Ball Roll creates.
The Ball roll itself takes place at 4pm when our own Special Olympian Bronze Medal winner Clodagh Killcullen will have the honour of releasing the balls at the top of Westview .
