The 2nd string went to Youghal in the first game of the Mick Barry cup and had high hopes of a win on the road. Even though they crossed the opposition line numerous occasions they only managed to touch down one with Deam McKweon claiming the points. Liam Greaney added 3 from the boot to finalize Cobhs score of 8 points with Youghal having a tally of 12.
The first team were at hoe to a much fancied Tralee and survived a scare in th opening seconds when Tralee hack on only for the ball to go into touch inches before the corner flag. Cobh then settled into a good running game but a few errors coat them dearly as Tralee capitalized at every opportunity. With James Murphy running hard all day he get over the line in the first have to reward his work, Jack Hickey adding to Cobhs try count in the second. Mark Chandler kicked 2 penalties and a conversion to leave the score at full time Tralee 30 18 Cobh.
Juvenile Section
Mark O Halloran, franchise owner of McDonalds in Mahon Point shopping center and Midelton, is seen below presenting a set of jerseys to both the under 15s and under 17s recently. Mark, a native of Cobh, was delighted to sponsor Cobh Pirates juvenile section. Pirates currently have over 300 children spanning 11 age grades, so it was with great gratitude that Pirates accepted Marks generous sponsorship of team jerseys for both the 15s and 17s. We look forward to cementing Marks relationship with the club, especially in the current climate we are in. Expenses for travel, insurance, training equipment and match day equipment along with insurance are eased with the generous support from people, like Mark, along with other local businesses in the community for various fundraising projects.
