The annual series of summer recitals on Cobh’s world-famous Carillon of St Colman’s Cathedral has now commenced. These recitals have now been running for an incredible eighty-four years, originally initiated by Staf Gebruers, the first Carillonneur of St Colman’s, and then continued by his son and successor, Adrian. They are organised by the Cobh Carillon Committee and grant aided by the Arts Council and the Cork County Council and Cobh Town Council.
The hour-long recitals take place on Sunday afternoons at 4.30 from May to September and are usually presented by the resident Carillonneur. As always, there will also be a number of guest recitals by leading international carillonneurs from France, Ireland, The Netherlands and The USA and this year featuring several up-and-coming young musicians under the heading “The Next Generation”.
