A very pleasant function organised by John Mansworth Snr, took place in Gilmore’s Pub, Cobh, on Saturday 25th August when a group of Senior US Naval Officers revisited Cobh after many years. The group was lead by Tony Barbieri of San Diego, who was in Cobh in 1990 onboard the USS Harry E.Yarnell, a 1960 Leahy-class guided missile cruiser, named in honor of Admiral Harry E.Yarnell, and this would be the first of many memorable Naval visits to Cobh.
Mayor of Cobh Sinead Sheppard made a wonderful impression on the group before presenting Mr Barbieri with the Cobh Town flag. Also on hand was President of Cobh & Harbour Chamber, John Sweeney who made a presentation of a Commemorative Chamber Tie and relevant Chamber information. In reply, Mr Barbieri said he was ‘overwhelmed by the reception he received from all concerned.’ The group left Cobh with with a great feeling. They hope to return in the not too distant future.
