Results: U10 Decky Guckian Lge: Ballincollig 4-01 Cobh 4-03. Cobh finished the first section of this league with a win away to Ballincollig on Sunday last. Kevin Murphy goaled with the very last puck of the game to secure the win for a Cobh team which now advances to the next qualifying round. Diarmuid Kearney notched up 2-03, Cian Walker scored Cobh’s other goal, while Jason Histon and Jack O’Donovan also made good contributions during the game.
U12FL. Carrig na bhFearr 4-2, Cobh 2-9. The Cobh U12 football team is becoming a team to watch, following a well earned victory over Carrig na bhFearr on Monday night. The team now has 5 points from a possible 8 after 4 games in the East Cork U12 league. All the points lost so far, were due to last minute goals scored by our opponents, but on Monday night it was Cobh who held their nerve to turn around a 1 point deficit in the last 2 minutes.
Overall the match was very competitive. By half time Cobh had built up a decent lead. The second half saw Carrig na bhfearr improve and they levelled the match and went 1 point ahead, with a few minutes to go. But the Cobh team did not panic and responded well. Ciarán Leahy scored a point to again level the match, and Charlie Flemming put over a great winner. In all, 9 Cobh players got on the scoreboard, and the full panel of 22 all played a significant part. Best for Cobh were Niall Spriggs who won some great possession at midfield, goalscorers David Coffey and Seán Hilliard, wing forwards Neil Harte and Charlie Flemming and in defence, Jack O’Brien and Jeffrey McCarthy. It was great to be on the good side of a last minute turnaround, and great fun was had on the long bus journey home.
For details of training please see www.cobhgaa.ie. New players are always welcome and we are working to ensure that all those who regularly attend training get competitive match time.
