Four representatives from Cobh Tidy Towns travelled to the National Tidy Towns Awards in The Helix in Dublin City University last Monday. We were delighted to be awarded a Silver Medal again, maintaining Silver status for 3 years in a row. We increased our overall mark by 3 points and the report is available to view on www.tidytowns.ie. As we progress further in this competition every point is valuable and hard earned. It is the efforts of
so many in Cobh that contributes to our success.
Thank you to the council workers who work all year round to keep our town looking well. Thank you to the boys and girls in all of the schools for their hard work in obtaining Green Schools flags. Thank you to the businesses which continue to enhance their premises thus adding to the allure of Cobh. Thank you to the Residents’ Associations that are doing superb works in their own neighbourhoods. Thank you to the people of Cobh for supporting our fundraisers including coffee mornings, Church Gate collections and our Annual Calendar. Thank you to Cobh Credit Union for their ongoing sponsorship of our Tidy Districts competition. Thank you to our TÚS workers Paddy in 2013/14 and Marek for his ongoing work in 2014.
Thank you to the local online and paper media for helping us share our work updates. Finally and most importantly thank you to every single one of our wonderful volunteers who come out each week and some every day, to give of their time for their town. Together we are better. If you would like to volunteer with Cobh Tidy Towns remember you can come along whenever it suits you. We meet as a group on Saturdays throughout the autumn and winter at 10am at the Five Foot Way playground, but many of our volunteers go out at other times and look after specific areas when it suits them. All of this no doubt has contributed to Cobh being also named as a top ten finalist in the Fáilte Ireland Tourism Towns competition. The winners will be announced in November. Fingers crossed!
