Cobh U16 Camogie had a great win away to Bishopstown in the county quarter–final on Thursday 23rd October. Cobh won the toss and decided to play with the wind and this decision paid off in spades. Cobh dominated from the off, moving the ball quickly and creating scoring chances and within the first 5 minutes had scored 2 good goals from Katelynn Quinlann. Both goals came from good passing movements involving Laura Stafford, Ashling Bardsley and Jen McCarthy with Katelynn finishing the moves off with great strikes. Cobh added the next 3 points with 2 from Quinlann and one well taken by Acniela Douglas. Bishopstown slowly came more into the game added 2 points of their own. Cobh continued with their no – nonsense brand of camogie and following good work by Laura Stafford Jen Mccarthy soloed in from the wing and laid off a perfect pass to Toni Butler who finished the move to the net. Toni added a point straight away. Cobhs half back line of Chloe Cashman, Sorcha McKeown and Ellen Stafford together with Aggie Douglas & Aoife O Connor at midfield continued to win possession from the Bishopstown puck outs and this constant supply of ball was well used by the Cobh Forwards. Megan Foley received a fine pass from Ashling Bardsley and cracked home a great goal from distance..Megan added a further goal and point. Cobh defence continued on top and a great move started by Sophie Maher at corner back to Aoife o Connor at midfield straight onto to katelynn Quinlann who put it over the bar from 50 yards. Halt time Cobh 5 -7 V Bishopstown 0 -4 .
Bishopstown were a transformed team right from the start of the second half..now playing with the wind they took over the game and scored 2-2 in the first 10 minutes of the half to bring themselves right back into the game.It could have been worse for Cobh but Clodagh Tibbits in goal brought off 2 good saves and defenders Aoife Sheehan, Emma Moran and Sophie Maher showing great leadership got a grip on the Bishopstown in side line. Sorcha McKeown at Centre Back, Aggie Douglas at midfield, Megan Foley at centre forward and Katelynn Quinlann doing Trojan work Cobh regained the initiative and 2 pointed free’s from K Quinlann gave Cobh the breathing space they required. Cobh were now settled and finished off the game with a fine Megan Foley point . Cobhadvanced to the County semi-final on a score of 5 -11 V 2 – 8 having survived Bishopstown’s come back.
