Cobh Ramblers 0-3 Wilton United
Two goals in the last 9 mins flattered Wilton against a gallant Ramblers side at St Colman’s Park last Wednesday evening. Wilton played with their usual flair and passing game but Ramblers fought them every inch and tried their upmost to upset the stylish Wilton side. After 4 mins a little hesitantly in Ramblers defence allowed the Wilton centre forward to toe poke the ball into the net. On the 16 min Ramblers forced a corner on the right which Ciara Duffy played on to the head of Orianna Mc Grath only to see the ball go narrowly wide. A few mins later good link up play between Yvonne Harrington and Mary Mc Donnell saw the latter shave the crossbar from 20 yards. At the other end Ramblers keeper Linda Mc Namara made a brilliant save diving at the feet of the in rushing Wilton player. The second half saw Wilton up the tempo but Ramblers continued to battle hard and their defence stood firm but it was clear that the hard work of closing down Wilton was beginning to tell as Ramblers tired. Yvonne Harrington had a good shot well saved by the Wilton keeper. Then with 9 mins remaining a Wilton player received a serious leg injury and had to be stretched from the pitch. Well done to Ramblers physio Micheal Greaney for the very professional manner he dealt with the injured player. As a result of this injury there was a considerable stoppage to the game. Although Chloe Smith did hit the side netting for Ramblers the stoppage took its toll on the concentration of the home side and Wilton punished Ramblers with a very good second goal. They followed this up with a third goal just before referee Aidan O’Regan blew the final whistle. While you get no points for a brave performance it showed the spirit is good in this team and fairs well for the rest of the season.
Ramblers next game is away to Bandon on the 5th May where they will be hoping to pick up all 3 points and their next home game in St Colman’s Park is on the 12th May to Douglas Hall, kick off 7 p.m. Your support would be very welcome. The ladies will also launch their Golf Classic after the game in the clubhouse which is to be held on Friday 18th June in Cobh Golf Course.
