The Cobh 1916 Commemoration Committee will hold a fundraising Pub Quiz at Kelly’s Bar, Cobh on Thursday, 15th September to augment the committee’s monument fund. The quiz will begin at 8.30pm and entry is €20 for a table of four people.
In April of this year the committee unveiled two major monuments and a commemorative plaque in and around Cobh to mark the centenary of the 1916 Rising. The monuments at Casement Square and West View and the plaque at Ballywilliam have already become tourist attractions in their own right and their unveiling attracted large numbers including some who travelled from overseas. Descendants of the Cobh Volunteers were among those present.
While the committee received funding assistance from the Cork County Council 1916 Heritage fund there is still a shortfall of several thousand euro which has to be raised. The Cobh 1916 Commemoration Committee is not affiliated to any group or political party and is made up entirely of unpaid volunteers.
