Adjudication for 2019 National Tidy Towns is underway with unannounced judge visits over the summer. A tremendous amount of consistent work by our volunteers as well as other community groups such as Cobh Zero Waste, Clean Coast Cobh, Save Our Swifts Cobh, Cuskinny Nature Reserve, Green Schools, Sports clubs, Cork County Council, businesses and resident groups will contribute to a positive result this year. Already Cobh has been all over the papers and social media having been named by international traveller magazine Conde Nast as one of the “25 most beautiful towns in Europe” !
‘Cobh redefines charming with its rows of candy-colored homes along the water and towering cathedral standing sentry over the harbor. This town is particularly popular with cruise-lovers—about 60 ships stop there every year. In fact, Cobh was the final port of call for the RMS Titanic, and a commemorative museum stands in the city today’.
A very well deserved accolade for our historic and architecturally stunning town.
Help us keep the standards up in Cobh. Please bin your litter or pick one piece of clean litter when out and about . If you want to become an Area Adopter just ask us for a litter picker and get going ! It would help hugely if all smokers placed their butts in a bin and if businesses gave outside their door a sweep on opening for business. Projects completed thanks to the Cobh Credit Union Pride Of Place Bursary for 2018/2019 can be seen in signage at Coolamber, planting in Rushbrooke Links, planting in Dawn View, name signs at Kidney Steps & Rosshill, refurbished gates at St Joseph’s School, paint at Roches Row and Whitewash at Connolly Street.
Thanks to the Credit Union for this ongoing support of the community. Thanks to Cork County Council for funding flower displays in the town Centre and local contractor Verwey Flowers for yet again ensuring the flowers supplied are kept blooming with timely watering and feeding. Obtaining our 5th Gold medal can only come about with teamwork and your efforts. Help us bring another Gold to Cobh.
