Kelly Fortune travelled to Stolberg in Germany in June with the Kettlebell Irish team to compete in the European Championships 2019. Thirty three countries were present competing for their European titles. Australia, Canada and Russia were also invited to compete. Kelly placed second in her first lift, Snatch 16kg event, and was awarded a silver medal. Kelly was awarded first place, and European Champion 2019, in One Arm Long Cycle event with a 20kg bell, and received a gold medal for Ireland.
Kelly would like to thank all of those who have supported her, believed in her and encouraged her throughout her time in this sport and in particular around this event. The support she has received from the Cobh community has been phenomenal.
Kelly, in particular, would like to thank Coral Leisure Cobh who are not only a sponsor but an everyday support to her in her training. Not only do they provide the venue and equipment to facilitate her training, but the staff have been behind her all the way.
Kelly would like to thank the staff in Cobh Credit Union for their support in competing in this event. They have sponsored Kelly for two years now and their support is much appreciated. Michael Carlin, Manager of the Credit Union, showed his interest in this local girl competing for her country when he set up a Facebook account to watch her competing live at the European Championships 2019.
You can take the girl out of Cobh, but you can’t take the Cobh out of the girl.
