Cobh Pirates recently held their adult tag rugby finals and were blessed by good weather and a great turnout. The day saw last years winners JBMs Scareys, captained by John Barry Murphy, retain their trophy and donate their prize money to Cobh Hospital. The Chang Gang, made up of the Chandler brothers and a few more, clinched the bowl competition on the day.
After the rugby was completed the players enjoyed a BBQ, many thanks to Kathleen Dunne, Jason Anglim and the gang who provided the appreciated hot food, along with Danny Murphy of Centra for sponsoring it. A highlight of the day was the arrival of 2 Munsters “Kiwis” Sam Tuitupou and Lifeimi Mafi (thanks to Cobh Edition) who took in the good atmosphere and both commented on the turn out and family feeling in the club. Many thanks to those who supported the event and in particulr to Peter “Brick” Ahearn for his work throughout the tournament.
The juvenile tag is now under way with impressive numbers turning out. A day will be organised for the finals before the kids return to school.
