Breaking The Silence has had a very active week this week with the delivery of four Safe Talk Workshops in the Cork Area by the group’s trainers. The first of these took place on Wednesday evening at Cobh Convent of Mercy and was delivered by group trainer and vice chairperson Sinéad Sheridan. Sinéad qualified as a Safe Talk Trainer earlier this year and has since been delivering this training and in addition to this she has worked as a Peer Support Education Trainer for the past number of years. The next three workshops were delivered at Cork Institute of Technology by Jimmy Losty and Noel (Sam) Feely and once again there was a great attendance present. Both Jimmy and Noel (Sam) are also ASIST Trainers (Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training) and deliver both ASIST and Safe Talk Training across Cork on a regular basis. The SAFE in Safe Talk stands for Suicide Alertness for Everyone and Breaking The Silence is a Cobh based voluntary that helps to create a Suicide Safer Community by connecting the person at risk of Suicide with life preserving resources.
The group aims to listen, educate, support and train the community on Suicide. It is with the support of the entire community that we can continue with work. Breaking The Silence’ 2010 Flag Day will take place in Cobh on Thursday 25th November and Cobh Edition (Online Community Newsletter) have organised a fundraiser for the group on Friday 3rd December at The Crow’s Nest Cobh, entry is €5 and a DJ and Massive Raffle will be the entertainment on the night! Everybody is welcome and if you are interested in donating a spot prize please contact our fundraising team on email fundraisingbts@gmail.com For information on upcoming courses with Breaking The Silence please email breakingthesilencobh@gmail.com and to keep up to date with group activities you can find us on facebook by searching for ‘Breaking The Silence Cobh’.
