A Titanic100 ‘Thank You’ to The Mayor of Cobh

Although the Titanic Centenary year runs to December, there is one year that will be finishing in a couple of weeks. All at Titanic 100 Cobh 2012 would like to congratulate Cllr Jim Quinlan on a tremendous year representing us all as Mayor of Cobh and we would like to wish him all the best.

Cobh is a magnificent town and during 2012, as it is the centenary year of Titanic’s only voyage, we find ourselves with an opportunity to commemorate our connection with the Titanic in a very special way.

Jim Quinlan’s presence and eloquence has added to the commemoration year more than he realizes. His manner as Mayor of Cobh has been undeniably first rate and his approach to this responsibility has been professional and honest.

We are proud of Jim representing Cobh during the many Civic duties he has been asked to attend connected to Titanic 100 Cobh 2012. And, because of the year that is in it, these duties may have been more frequent and to a larger audience than some other times. Jim has not faltered in this unique arena. His genuine passion for his home town and the people in it has been reflected in the way he has held the position and he has proven to be a great Ambassador to Cobh.

From singing with the “Big Band” to a national audience on The Ryan Tubridy Radio Show, to introducing the President of Ireland to our great town in front of a global audience, Jim has always had the community’s best interest at heart. His approach to the job has been one of doing the best he can for us and he has succeeded.

Jim’s ‘real’ job is a Secondary School teacher, a full time position that he takes very seriously. Being the Mayor of Cobh appears to be another role that could be full time as there has been much to do. We have witnessed first hand that Jim has managed to juggle these two roles during his tenure as Cobh’s First Citizen, and from where we sit, he has done it with humility, passion and Grace. That’s Grace with a capital G, as we refer to his wife who we would also like to thank as well for being there with Jim and supporting our town so positively.

Councilor Jim Quinlan, congratulations on an outstanding year. You have done the town of Cobh proud. You have been an asset to our community and we wish you all the very best for the rest of the year, and indeed the years to come. We would like to acknowledge that you are someone that has stepped up to the plate and shown, not only the people of Cobh, but also the rest of Ireland, that Cobh is a place to be proud of. That, in our opinion, is a big part of a Mayor’s job and you have done it with bells on. Thank you.

Marc, Tanya, Jamie, Martin and Tomas.
