Big Bottle Bins for Cobh ! Single use plastic bottles are among the top types of litter picked by our volunteers on street and beach cleans. According to VOICE Ireland we now generate around 3 billion single-use plastic bottles in Ireland every year. In Cobh we introduced the Refill scheme last year which saw a large number of Cobh businesses offer free refills of tap water in your reuseable bottle. We still have a large number of single use water and beverage plastic bottles in Cobh.
Huge thanks to the Cobh MD outdoor staff who will empty the bottle bins and take the bottles to the recycling Centre rather than to landfill. A big team effort and another step to manage our waste more sustainably. Choose to refill your reuseable bottle in Cobh or recycle single use plastic rather than landfill. **Please do not use these Big Bottle Bins for litter as they are only for single use plastic drink bottles. **
Having seen creative bins for recycling plastic bottles in Dungarvan on our volunteers road trip last year we were delighted to work with our Cobh Municipal District Litter Warden Clodagh Meade to bring the Big Bottle recycling bin for plastic bottles here. Thanks to Clodagh for driving the project funded through the Cork County Council 2019 Anti Dumping Initiative. The first one has been located at the entrance to Kennedy Pier. Further bins will be located in Carrignafoy and the Five Foot Walkway.
