Butterfly Wings last week handed over a cheque for €5000 to the Irish Cancer Society’s Night Nursing Unit, thanks to its 5th Annual Butterfly Ball. Rose O Dea from the Irish Cancer Society was on hand to accept the cheque and to thank the committee and all their supporters in Cobh and surrounding areas for the work they do. Rose said that although early detection of cancer is leading to more people surviving cancer, there are still many families out there that aren’t so lucky. They still rely heavily on programmes like the Night Nurse Unit to help them when they need it most. She stressed again that this programme is ran on completely fund raised money and that groups like Butterfly Wings are essential to the operation. The committee would like to take this opportunity to thank the people of Cork for all their help and support over the past 6 years. The committee are eternally grateful, as are the families who benefit with Night Nurse Care.
So what are the plans for next year……. The committee will have a stand at the Cobh Community Centre’s Volunteer Day on the 25th June and will be happy to show people how they can get involved. We are running the Cork Mini Marathon this year for the Mercy Hospital and will be looking for volunteers. We are also delighted to announce that next year’s Butterfly Ball will take place on Patrick’s Day 17th March in the beautiful surrounds of the Fota Island Resort, Cobh’s own Big Band will be joining us on the night, along with some homegrown local talent for a few Patrick’s Day surprises.
This year the committee are running a manage system of payment if people are interested, where they can pay weekly for their tickets or can go down the old fashion route of up front. The choice is yours but a great night for a fantastic cause – the Night Nurse Unit – is guaranteed.
Again a reminder that Butterfly Wings have a host of beautiful dresses to choose from if you are stuck for something to wear on the night, don’t hesitate to contact us and we’ll see if we have the perfect dress for you.
We also take donations of dresses, so if you have a ball or debs dress hanging around that you don’t need, want or fit anymore we can find a good home for it.
If you have any enquiries about any of the above don’t hesitate to contact the committee, you can do so on 021 4814172, 0863779948, butterflyswing@gmail.com or find us on facebook at Butter Flywings.
