Chamber’s Face of Business and Sales Person of the Year Awards

The Cobh & Harbour Chamber in conjunction with Cobh Town Council and AIB hosted their Annual Face of Business and Sales Person of the Year Awards in the Sirius Arts Centre on 26th September 2012. Launching the evening’s events was Cobh & Harbour President John Sweeney who congratulated all the nominees as well as praising the efforts of Cobh Tidy Towns Commitee for their continued effort and fantastic result in the Tidy Town awards held recently. Cllr Paddy Whitty deputising for the Mayor spoke of the commitment of Cobh Town Council to the awards and at his honour of being present at the ceremony.  Mr. Paraig Lynch, Town Clerk, then gave a presentation on the businesses which were shortlisted and the reasons for their nomination.

First prize in the Owner Occupied Category went to ‘Jeromes’ Take Home Meals and a delighted owner was on hand to accept the award. The runners up in this category were The Commodoe Hotel and Mimmo’s Take Away.  In the best Rented Category the first prize went to ‘The Rob Roy’Bar. The runners up in this category were The Mauretania Bar and Sorrento Take Away.

The next award of the evening was The Sales Person of the Year which was sponsored by AIB Bank, Cobh and was presented by Mr. David Perrott. The calibre of the nominees was extremely high and the judges had a difficult job to select an overall winner. However, it was Jennifer Buckley of Titanic Experience who was selected as the Sales Person of the Year 2012. The runners up in this category were Terri McCarthy of Danny’s Centra and Stephen Britton of Garvey’s Supervalu.

Mr. John Sweeney, President stated that the Chamber

• Actively markets tourism in Cobh and operates an all year round Tourist Information  Office

• Organises such events as Christmas “Shop Local” Campaign, Christmas Lights, School’s Language Competition, “Summer Swing” series of Free Concerts in the Promenade, the Chamber’s Business and Citizen of the Year awards.

• The Chamber are also sponsors of a Community Employment Scheme with 21 participants, providing employment in the local community and running a full time office in the town of Cobh which operates to a high professional standard

At the conclusion of the evenings events John Sweeney, President of the Cobh & Harbour Chamber thanked the Cobh Town Council and A.I.B for their continuing support without which he said the awards would not be possible. He also thanked the staff of both Chamber and Tourist Information Office for their hard work throughout a very busy tourist season
