Cork East TD Seán Sherlock has called for clarity on whether parents can breach the new 5km limit to bring children to training that is still underway.
“In many parent’s minds, the limit does not exist because training is allowed, ” said Deputy Sherlock.
“However, parents are wary of breaking guidelines with Garda checkpoints due to be mounted again like they were in March. We must take all steps to reduce stress and worry for people and there needs to be clarity on whether parents can bring children training outside the 5km. So many codes have members well outside parishes, not all are around the corner from training. I have raised this as an urgent matter of clarification with the Minister.”
Meanwhile, Deputy Sherlock also said that the rules for funerals need to be re-examined.
“Having 25 at a wedding yet limiting mourners to 10 is something that must be looked at again,” said Deputy Sherlock.
“The small number of weddings left this year can proceed which is a welcome move. However, the heartbreaking part of grief being denied to many by limiting funerals to 10 people will anger people. People deserve their chance to pay their respects to those close to them they have lost. If we can allow home visits for compassionate care, we can allow that final goodbye to take place.”
