COBH CARILLON RECITALS – JUNE
The 84th Season of recitals on the grand carillon of St Colman’s Cathedral in Cobh continues during June with recitals on Sundays 12th and 19th from 4.30 to 5.30 p.m. presented by Adrian Gebruers, Cathedral Carillonneur.   A closed-circuit system within the Cathedral enables the public to view the instrument being played.

COBH CATHEDRAL TOURS – JUNE
Guided tours of the Cathedral take place every Sunday afternoon meeting at the main door at 3.30.   Those wishing to book tours at other times for groups of 15 or more should contact the Parish Office (tel. 4813222) for details, giving as much notice as possible.

Thursday 2nd June – The oldest Brass Band in the World will give a lunchtime recital in Cobh on Thursday 2nd June. The Stalybridge Old Band from Greater Manchester was formed in 1809 and are visiting Tipperary town on their summer tour. The song It’s a long way to Tipperary was written by Jack Judge in Stalybridge on 30 January 1912 and performed the next night at the local music hall adjacent to the Stalybridge Old Band’s Hall. Cobh Tourism was delighted to facilitate the band’s request to visit Cobh and play on the Victorian Bandstand in the Promenade on Cobh’s waterfront. The recital will begin at 12 noon and conclude at 1.30 pm.

Sunday 5th June – Cobh Town Centre – South of Ireland Piping and Drumming Contest is again being hosted here in Cobh on Sunday June 5th. Competition starting at 1.30pm. Bands will be arriving in town from 11.00am onwards and will be gathering in the general area of the Promenade. Competitions take place in the town centre with the final parade of Massed Bands from there to the Heritage Centre at 6pm.

Thursday 9th June – Commodore Hotel – An Evening with Darragh McGann and Guests -8.00pm – To celebrate the release of his new album “Inside Out” Darragh will perform a special concert at the Commodore Hotel, Cobh. Special guests on the night will include, Mr. Paul O’Connor, Ms. Molly Lynch and Ms. Keri Reilly Murphy. Proceeds from this concert will go to Cork Cancer Research at the Mercy University Hospital. Saturday 18th June – Cobh Family Support Network – Cobh Wellbeing Day is a free public event taking place on Saturday 18th June 2011, from 11am-4pm on the Promenade. The aim of the event is to promote all forms of well being (Mental health, Physical Health, Sexual Health and Social Health) for all ages and backgrounds in the Cobh Community.

Sunday 19th JuneBallymore Cycling Club will be hosting its primer event in the cycling calendar “The Leahy Cup”. Cycling is enjoying strong growth over the past two years and this is great opportunity to see riders from under 12 up to Munster’s elite senior riders fresh from competing in the An Post RAS. The event will take place in and around the roads of Ballymore, the Valley Road, Carty’s Junction, Tay Road and Cuskinny. The racing will begin with the under 12’s at 11.45 and will run until around 16.30 with the finish of the Senior 1 race. Your cooperation with the marshals on the day is greatly appreciated and we would hope to keep any delays to a minimum, the safety of riders and other road users is our priority and with your support we can ensure that a great days racing can is enjoyed by all.
