Cobh Gaa Notes – 30/12/11
It was that time of year again when the turkey could rest for awhile but it was the turn of country ditches and plastic slioters to live in fear! The annual Cobh GAA Puc Fada took place on a mild St. Stephens day morning last with a record number of teams entering.
After all the hurling was complete family and friends retired to the club in order to dissect the mornings performances, entertainment was provided by the excellent Jamie Stanton and not to be outdone Jimmy Cronin MC’d the sing song late into the evening.
Winners on the day were the following:
(Seamus O’ Riordain Shield) – Adult Winners
Brendan Kearney, Cian Duffy & Niall Duffy
Camogie Winners
Mari Moynihan, Marian McGrath, Chloe Smith, Aoife Richardson & Aileen McCarthy
Family Winners
The Barrett Family with team Captain Dereck and the troops!
Juvenile Winners
Paudi Kearney Diarmuid Kearney and Emmett Duffy
In keeping with tradition Cobh GAA always likes to use the Puc Fada to support local charities. The huge turn out in this years competition allowed the club to present two cheques to help the local St.Vincent de Paul organisation and also to the Casey Byrne-Rowe Benefit Fund. The Club would like to wish the best of health to Casey.
The club would like to thank all the people who helped organise this great day and to all who participated also. Hope to see you all again next year! Athbhlian Faoi Mhaise Daoibh go Leir!
