“Cobh Golf Club – President’s Prize won by Peter Meaney and Daphne Hales
This year’s Presidents Prize competition took place on Tuesday, 17th August(Ladies) and on the weekend of the 21/22 August (Men). Over 320 members played – a record participation this year!
The Club remembered with fondness their late President Eamon Tobin (RIP). His wife Maureen and family members organized the weekend in Eamon’s place and deserved a big applause for all the work that they have put into it! The weather on Saturday and Sunday was beautiful – sunshine, a light breeze and a few clouds, but no rain at all (thank you, Eamon).
In the men’s section, there were outstanding scores for the winner and runner’s up: Peter Meaney scored 41 points, playing of a 4-handicap (thus played the course under par), while second-placed Killian Barry and 3rd placed Noel Murray both played of 17 handicap, also scoring 41 points! Further results are published by the club under the following link: http://www.cobhgolfclub.ie/index.cfm/page/presidentsprize2010
The Ladie’s Prize was won by Daphne Hales on 39 points, playing of a 14 handicap. Second was Carroll Forrest (35 points), and third was Paula Desmond (34 points). Best Gross went to Jessy Anthony, playing of 11. Further results are available under the club’s website link: http://www.cobhgolfclub.ie/index.cfm/page/presidentsprize-mreamontobin18
The winner in the “Student” Section was David Meaney, playing of a handicap of 10
The prize presentations took place Sunday evening in the Commodore Hotel. The table with prizes was beautiful, with magnificent crystal bowls for both, winner of Ladies (Daphne Hales) and Men (Peter Meaney). After the presentations, members enjoyed music and dance.
The Club also announced that they are hosting an Open Mixed Foursomes & BBQ on Friday, 3rd September. 15 holes of golf will be followed by a BBQ In the Crows Nest, Cobh. Cost 20 for both(!) Golf & BBQ, or 12 for BBQ only.Tee times & tickets are available in the Pro shop from Wed 25/08/10. Tee times are between 2pm to 5pm. BBQ starts @ 8pm – all are welcome.”
