The Cobh Lusitania Centenary committee, comprising of Cobh Tourism, Cobh Museum, Cobh businesses, local historical organisations, Cork County Council and interested individuals has been working hard over the past six months on a programme of events that will run throughout April and the first ten days of May 2015.

Throughout April there will be a free Lusitania themed lecture in Cobh each weekend, each focusing on a different aspect of the tragedy, its place in history and the ship as it lies now off the Cork coast. The lectures are as follows:

*Easter Monday 6th April – Ray White – The making of the documentary “Death by misadventure” & John Hennessy – “The Queenstown Lifeboat station” 3 pm Commodore Hotel*

*Sunday 12th April – Michael Martin ** “Lusitania – It wasn’t and it didn’t” * *3.30 pm **Commodore Hotel – after the annual Cobh Titanic Commemoration*

*Sunday 19th April – Eoin McGarry **”Diving the Lusitania”** 3 pm Commodore Hotel *

*Sunday 26th April – Paddy Sullivan “The sinking of the Lusitania, Unravelling the Mysteries” 3pm Commodore Hotel*

A brief outline of events that will happen on the 7th and 10th May 2015 can be seen on visitcobh.com.

The mass funeral that took place on 10th May 1915 will be re-enacted on Sunday 10th May 2015 and we are asking for as many people as possible to attend. Photographs show the funeral procession, which had just three hearses and only one or two vehicles, stretching all the way from the Old Church Cemetery to the top of Ticknock Hill. The re-enactment will be Cobh’s final tribute to all those who lost their lives and to everyone who played a role in the rescue, recovery and care of the bereaved one hundred years before to the day. We will be inviting people to consider wearing clothing of the era as can be seen in this segment of an actual photograph of the funeral procession. Start planning now by checking your wardrobe or that of your grandparents for anything with a vintage look.
