COBH has already lost way too much and cannot afford to lose its District Court service Cork East Labour TD Seán Sherlock has stated. Deputy Sherlock is seeking clarification from the Minister for Justice on rumours that Cobh District Court is to relocate elsewhere which he said would represent another huge loss for the town.
”There is already a huge question mark hanging over the future of Cobh Community Hospital, the town is without a local ambulance service, the government is dragging its heels when it comes to doing the right thing about Haulbowline. Now the department is looking to the further erosion of state services,” said the Labour Party TD. ”We are witnessing this government constantly chipping away at various services on offer in our rural towns which are especially vital to those who have no access to transport. First it was the bus now it’s the local court service. It is ludicrous to suggest that family maintenance payments etc being handled by the court service staff in Cobh and concerning people living within the catchment area, may now be moved elsewhere,”
” I have asked the Minister to clarify his government?s policy with regard to District Court services and if there are plans to consolidate this service in the future and in particular to specify any proposals for Cobh,” said Deputy Sherlock.
