Cobh Pirate News
Munster Junior Clubs Challenge Cup Cobh Pirates defeated Clanwilliam 18 – 9 in the Challenge Cup at the Paddocks. It was a very young Pirates side and they showed great promise for the future. Playing against the wind, Pirates led 10 -6 at half-time, a try by John Barry-Murphy converted by Eoin Geary and a penalty from Eoin Geary. In the second half Ciarán Deignan went over for a try. Clanwilliam got another penalty but Pirates stretched their lead with another penalty from Eoin Geary. Pirates meet Tralee next Sunday, 30th Sept., in the Munster Junior League at the Paddock, kick-off 2.30pm.
Ladies Match Report
The Pirates’ ladies side had a very positive start to the season yesterday. They played a friendly away to Fermoy Lionesses. It was a game of many firsts, most importantly being the introduction of contested scrums to the development league. Travelling with 16 players allowed them to play 15 aside again a huge improvement on last year’s numbers and a reflection on the commitment of all girls involved. In a very close score line which doesn’t do the girls justice, they lost 17-7. Charlotte Skidmore scored the Pirates’ try and converted by capt Eilish Walsh. A big well done to Oriana McGrath on her first game of rugby and welcome back to Ang Britton who had her first game as a forward! First league game Oct 7th at home to Clanwilliam, hope to see you all there!
