The Junior 1s conclude their league campaign with an away loss to Clare side St Senans, but retain their division 1 status. They went down 20-10, with Mark Chandler crossing the line for the Pirates. The Junior 2s march on in the Cup with a 22-7 home win over UCC. Ian Jones (x2) and Pete Mullen scoring trys, with Pete unlucky to not touch down for a second in the last minutes of the game.
In the home game Cobh were the prominent team for the most part in this encounter, though little errors early on stopped the scoreboard from ticking over. Dominance was gained in the pack and, with Pete Mullen and Aron Kennedy causing problems with their ball carrying, Cobh were on the front front more most of the opening half. It was UCCs dogged tackling the denied Pirates crossing the line. Clever kicking by out-half Martin Carrol began to put further pressure on UCC and with wingers Rob Donovan and Stephen ONeill looking for work, a try was inevitable. The first coming from Peter Mullen with a quick tap penalty, and crashed over the line. Cobh began to move the ball more in the 2nd half, making ground through breaks by both centers. Fullback/out-half Ian Jones crossed the line twice with some very good elusive running. UCC came back into the game for a period, capitalizing on an error to touchdown under the post, but relentless defense led by Liam Greaney ensured their point tally was kept to a minimum.
In the other game in the Paddocks Cobh Pirates Ladies played their first ever home game against Abbyfeale. Cobh began the game in a great aggressive fashion taking the game to Abbyfeale at every opportunity. Captain and birthday girl Rachel OConnor led from the front covering every area of the pitch with great tackling. Lorna Bertles carried the ball into contact fearlessly and the Cobh center partnership of Emma Mac Sweeney and Trish O’Donovan both attacked and defended at every ask, and it was only a matter of time before none other than Kelly Sexton deservedly made history and crossed the line to touch down for the Ladies first ever try in the Paddock. Cobh dominated, even while down a player due to a sin binning, and in the 2nd half their fitness showed as their work rate remained constant.Woman of the match Jessica Kelleher crossed the line, after putting some some massive tackles ans carrying the ball from the base of the scrum and ruck at every chance. Kelly crossed a 2nd time to make the tally 3 tries
