Over 37 energetic members of Cobh Slim Jims took part in a fundraising fun run on Sunday morning in aid of Baby Casey Byrne Rowe, who is suffering from a Neuroblastoma Tumour. Neuroblastoma is a cancer of specialised nerve cells called neural crest cells. These cells are involved in the development of the nervous system and other tissues. Also benefiting from the run will be Cobh’s CDYS Youth Diversion Project.

An initiative of Donna Stapleton and inspired by RTE’s Operation Transformation, Cobh Slim Jims are a group made up of mostly ladies and a couple of men, who meet four times a week to run or walk in order to lose weight and stay fit. In the six weeks that the group have been meeting they have lost a total of 24 stone, 5 pounds.

Between them they decided to fundraise for this very worthy cause and even the pouring rain couldn’t stop their determination.  The one thing which was evident on the morning of the run was the support and encouragement the runners gave each other. They now hope to keep this group together and continue keeping fit. It is estimated that the group have raised near to €3,000

Congratulations to Martina O’Flaherty (first), Yvonne Stoat (second) and Trish Burns (third).
