This Saturday 13 Cobh Tidy Towns volunteers concentrated on cleaning the shores of the Great Island and Fota as part of the Clean Coast Clean Up of Cork Harbour.
The camber in the centre of Cobh was cleaned of litter and accumulated seaweed. Meanwhile 45 bags of cans and bottles were collected from the strand around the corner from Whitepoint while the painting of the low wall was also continued near the pictic area.
At Fota, staff from the Wildlife Park, Irish Rail and Cobh Tidy Towns helped with the cleanup of the shoreline north of the railway line. Also on hand were Birgit O’Driscoll of An Taisce’s Green Schools programme and Mary Stack of Cork County Council’s Environmental awareness section. The digger and dumper truck removed a considerable amount of debris and the Wildlife Park have vowed to clean the other side in the near future.
