It was great to see 24 volunteers out around Cobh on Saturday. Years of accumulated soil and vegetation was removed from the base of the old stone walls out by the ferry. Herbie Plummer of HP Transport and Cobh Skip Hire from Ticknock was the machine operator, helped by Jim, Ray, Hendrick and Tom Hoyne. Deborah and Lisa were out early and cleaned the Burma steps. The girls have kindly agreed to clean the steps every Saturday morning for the Summer season. Some tidy towns volunteers met with residents of Marine Gate and did a big clean up there.Well done Dawn, Pauline and their helpers Jordan, Jamie, Aaron and Sean who all made a difference today.

More volunteers went with residents of East Hill to clean the beach at the Holy Ground. 35 bags of rubbish were gathered from the Bench along to the Pier.Jim,Ray and Ursula continued the painting at Rahilly Street which has been transformed with the fresh paint. On Tuesday evening more volunteers met and the work was continued in Rushbrooke exposing the lovely stone walls on the approach to Cobh. The two squares in town were cleaned and cigarette butts removed from the footpaths.

The County Cork litter challenge is underway so please “bin your butts”.Entry forms are still available for those who want to enter the Cobh Tidy Districts Competition. Closing date is 1st June. Thanks to everybody who continues to paint and maintain their homes and business premises. We meet again on Saturday at 10am by the Five Foot way to continue our work. See you then………..
