In February 2017 the Great Island Community Forum submitted an application for Age Friendly Towns Status under Cork Age Friendly County Programme.
We are delighted to announce that the application was successful and plans to begin this programme are underway.
An Age Friendly Town is one where we all help to create an inclusive, equitable society in which older people can live full, active, valued and healthy lives. The overall aim of the programme is to improve the quality of life for older people through extensive consultation and identification of key issues.
The programme will be delivered through the Great Island Community Forum but will only be successful with participation by all on the island.
We will be supported by Cork County Council and the Cork Age Friendly Alliance.
This is a wonderful opportunity for the town and a chance for us to improve the quality of life on the island for all its inhabitants.
Follow the Great Island Community Forum on Facebook for updates and developments about the project. For further information please contact Sharon/Stephanie via email: gicf15@gmail.com
