In Cobh Promenade from 2 – 6pm on Sunday the 6th of September 2015, Vitality Cobh will host a Free Family Health & Wellbeing Event. Now in its fourth year, Vitality Cobh is preparing for what promises to be another brilliant afternoon. With entertainment and fun for all ages we also offer an opportunity to learn more about supports and services based in the community.

The Vitality Cobh planning committee came about several years ago, it grew from the Family Support Network, having identified a need to generate more awareness of local supports the Vitality Cobh initiative was deemed a proactive and positive manner of meeting this need. The organising committee is made up of a range of people representing a variety of services who work in Cobh such as: YMCA, Cork Mental Health, SHINE, HSE Community Work, Cobh FRC, Sli Nua, Cobh Lions Club, Cobh Youth Services, Cobh Summer Swing and the ISPCC.

There is an array of exciting entertainment planned for the afternoon for people of all ages. We are delighted to have Ben Hurley providing musical entertainment with some surprise guest performers. In addition to the Vitality Cobh line up, East Cork Cinema Club will also be screening a variety of films nearby, all based on the theme of wellbeing. Sinead McKee from the ISPCC says “There is something for everyone at this event. We invite everyone, young or young at heart to come down to the promenade in Cobh to experience the local talent and entertainment and to absorb the positive atmosphere. We hope to give members of the public a unique opportunity to learn more about what supports are available on their doorstep.”

There will be Face painting, Quizzes, Games, Prizes, Sinead Sheppard’s Dance Group, Art
Exhibition from local primary school students. The Fun Bus (but please note children must wear socks on the bus). There will be a mix of food and information stalls. Some stalls will have a focus on maintaining positive mental health, while others will relate to physical health, social health and general wellbeing. Cobh Lions Club will be providing Free Diabetic Screening on the day. Previous Vitality events received extremely positive feedback such as: “A family community event, something for everyone and cost us nothing to be there all afternoon!’- “Learned lots about what is available locally and it was lovely to get a chance to talk to the services about what they do.” Mags Creed HSE Community Worker said “when you need the support of a service it helps if you have already met someone and learned a little of what they do – it can make asking for help and support a little easier. The mix of information, entertainment, good food and community spirit is what makes this day so enjoyable.”

Without the support of our sponsors Vitality Cobh event would not be possible. The Vitality Cobh Committee would sincerely like to thank our main sponsors Cobh Credit Union and Cobh Municipal District for their support. We would also like to thank the National office for Suicide Prevention and the HSE South Mental Health Services for their assistance. Orla Flavin of Cobh Lions Club encourages local members to get behind the event saying. “Together we are stronger and your presence in supporting this proactive community event means together we can spread the important positive message – it’s ok to ask for help!”

So remember ‘Save the Date’ – Sunday 6th of September for another enjoyable and informative afternoon at the Promenade in Cobh.
