A great performance by the seniors this afternoon in Old Church Park along with high quality goals ensured all three points for Darren Murphy’s side. Griffin opened the scoring on 5 minutes with a cracking drive from just inside the box that flew between defenders to the corner of the net. Griffin had the chance to double the lead when he nearly met a super cross from Kearney on the right wing after 28 minutes. Kearney had to be alert to flick the ball away for a corner from a dangerous cross on 31 minutes before the Carrigaline player had a chance to pounce.
In injury time at the end of the first half Wanderers did manage to double the lead. Walsh cleared a cross with a big header, as he did all afternoon, and Abbott found Manson Browne on the right. Nathan spotted the keeper off his line and he lobbed superbly from 35 yards out into the net. On 51 minutes Griffin showed great strength to hold off the defender and draw a foul which Abbott curled towards the far post where Frahill got a glancing header to find the net for the third. Carrigaline pulled one back on 76 minutes but Wanderers ran out deserved winners at full time. Conor Walsh and Brendán Frahill were superb at the back today while George Keating had an outstanding game in mid-field. A brilliant and deserved win with great quality on show from all players today.
Team: Shane Hallahan, Eoin Hastings(Diarmuid Kearney 19 inj), Peter Nolan, Conor Walsh, Brendán Frahill, Jason Abbott(Capt.), Ross McCarthy(Tony Flanagan 72), Dave Curran(Brendan Jalill 57), Ciarán Griffin(John O’ Flynn 72), George Keating, Nathan Manson Browne(Rob Hughes 57).
